‘More grand slams’: Carlos Alcaraz already has sights set on 2023 glory after US Open triumph

Carlos Alcaraz has seen it all before when it comes to grand slam titles but he’s confident he can deliver the goods at the US Open, with a second major to his name.

The 23-year-old Argentinian has already reached four major tournaments in 2018, securing victory at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open to date. He’ll aim to become a four-times grand slam champion.

In the first week of July at the US Open, Alcaraz will be hoping to defend his trophy after he came from two sets down to beat his Croatian opponent Dominic Thiem 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in an opening match on Court 1. Thiem had previously beaten Alcaraz in six sets in the 2015 French Open.

Alcaraz was confident ahead of the start of his career as a clay specialist but has since blossomed on grass and in his second season, he has hit the ground running with a quarter-final at the French Open, semi-finals at Wimbledon and a quarter-final and semi-final at the US Open.

With a second grand slam title to his name, Alcaraz believes he can turn his career around before the end of his career.

He spoke to BBC Sport ahead of this year’s Australian Open men’s final between Thiem and Nick Kyrgios:

“I think I did my best, I’m very motivated. I like
