Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema Wins Ballon d’Or
The Ballon d’Or – Europe’s top-prize-winning footballer – has been awarded by FIFA in Madrid. With this win, the Real Madrid players have qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The football award is decided by a vote from the 65 members of the executive committee – FIFA’s governing body.
Karim Benzema has given a speech that is considered the best that he has provided, and his speech included a very short sentence about the “lucky” man who won this prize.
Benzema’s speech explained how he feels that he has made the most of his career and that he is lucky to receive this award.
The ceremony occurred in the FIFA headquarters in the capital of Spain, Madrid. The winner must be decided on Monday, as it was the FIFA annual general meeting on 24 November. Benzema will be present at the ceremony.
This is the second Ballon d’Or awarded to a Spanish player in December. Cristiano Ronaldo managed to win it last year with Cristiano Ronaldo, who won back-to-back Golden Balls in 2010 and 2011.
Benzema has become a global superstar, winning the Golden Ball in the 2002, 2006 and 2008 Olympics and the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008.
He became the world’s best player in the 2015 Ballon d’Or voting.
The 26-year-old was supposed to celebrate his birthday on Sunday, but he announced that he would play in the match against Granada, as he was still in a state of exhaustion after the game against Granada.
