Heavy Rain and Lightning Hit Southern California

Warmer weather on tap for Southern California after weekend of storms

The California Highway Patrol posted the following information on Twitter on Monday morning:

* Highway 1 northbound opened just after 9 a.m.

* Highway 1 southbound open just after noon

* Highway 1 northbound is now fully open at 11 a.m.

* Highway 1 southbound opened at 12:30 p.m.

* A number of southbound lanes are closed as crews work to open a stretch of highway that suffered significant damage after major rainfall on Sunday.

The Weather Channel announced today that a thunderstorm system brought heavy rain and lightning to Southern California Sunday night and early on Monday. One fatality was reported: A woman was hit by a vehicle at 8pm Sunday who died at the scene. The weather agency issued a flash flood warning for all of Southern California from noon to 5:30 pm on Monday. Some areas could see up to 4 inches of rain on the average 8 inch rainfall. I’m told there are people still out in heavy rain.
