California congresswoman faces accusations of ‘McCarthyism’ from AAPI groups over campaign ads that claim she’s ‘in on the murder’
The campaign ads feature audio of what are called ‘McCarthy Era’ remarks President Obama made to a crowd at a town hall forum where he warned that the GOP would be’starting to lose their mind’ if they don’t win the 2016 election.
And an ad, which appeared alongside Trump’s in the New York Times, says the congresswoman ‘takes the first step to join the murderous regime in Washington that wants to ban Muslims from the United States.’
In the ad, the congresswoman says she has ‘the courage to stand alone against the Muslim ban’ and takes an ‘epic step’ to take action, as she stands ready to ‘take back the country.’
The ads, which are being used to boost the congressional campaign of California’s Democratic candidate, were paid for by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Arab American Institute, among other groups.
The congresswoman has so far refused to comment on the ads. But in an interview with the Huffington Post, she accused Trump’s campaign of using racial slurs and accused the GOP presidential nominee of being ‘rash’ and’reckless.’
