Kevin De León is trying to become the next mayor of Colorado Springs

Letters to the Editor: Kevin de León wants to serve his constituents. So why isn’t he resigning?

Kevin de León wants to serve his constituents and the people of Colorado Springs. So why doesn’t he want to be an elected official?

We should all understand that Kevin de León wants to serve his constituents. He’s serving them now, as our mayor-elect, and he doesn’t want to end up in office like some of us tried.

I’m sure he doesn’t want to serve just any public service commission either. He’s been given a job, but he’s looking for a role to fill. He is trying to become the mayor-elect.

He thinks a job requires service. I would argue he’s just like me looking for work. It’s as simple as that.

I think that’s why he’s willing to try to become the next mayor of Colorado Springs, but I’m concerned he is being very self-serving.

He wants to serve the people at a moment of time when we need good leadership.

I can understand why De León doesn’t want to be mayor. He would have to resign his position as District Attorney. There are many good candidates for that job, but there’s only so much space. It’s a tough decision — resign or resign.

I’m also sad to see former Mayor John Suthers leave the District A Council. He was someone we all grew up with, and he served his community. We need someone like that to serve at this time, and it was so sad to see this great man go.

I wish him well, and I hope to see him back here in the days when we need service to this city.

I agree with everyone who’s written in, and I will do the same. I can’t tell the exact same thing four times, but in the end, I’m writing to say, “Yes – resign!”
